The most common caiman in the Amazon, the Spectacled Caiman gets its name from the bony ridge between its eyes that looks like a pair of spectacles. Usually around 2–3 meters long, it’s a skilled hunter of fish, amphibians, and small mammals. Found throughout rivers, lakes, and wetlands, it’s the caiman most visitors are likely to spot on their Amazon adventure.

The Black Caiman is the Amazon’s apex predator, growing up to 5 meters or more. Its dark, almost black skin helps it blend into the river’s shadows as it silently hunts fish, birds, and even larger mammals. Rare and powerful, encountering a Black Caiman is a highlight of any jungle expedition—and a true testament to the wild heart of the rainforest.

The Yacare Caiman is a medium-sized crocodilian, usually growing up to 3 meters. Recognizable by its lighter skin with dark spots, it thrives in seasonally flooded areas of the Amazon. Known for feeding on fish, birds, and small mammals, the Yacare is an agile, fascinating predator that adds to the diversity and excitement of the rainforest experience.
